Sweet Potato Chana Chaat

CHAAT! The quintessential street food of India. I haven’t met a person who didn’t like some sort of a chaat. In fact, you can try with so many variations and customize as per individuals tastes but most chaat start with some sort of a base and topped with vegetables ,sauces, chutneys and some fried toppings.

And if you guys are looking for some sort of healthy, oil free or fat free or gluten-free chaat that covers every flavors profile and texture you could imagine, then here’s comes the SWEET POTATO CHANA CHAAT and it is a super simple recipe and it is great alternative to the popular aloo chaat.

The sweetness of sweet potatoes pairs well with spicy green chutney and tangy tamarind chutney and lemon juice. Overall a guilty free yummy chaat to enjoy any time of the day.

Lets see how to make this chaat,

SWEET POTATO CHANA CHAT RECIPE

INGREDIENTS:

To boil Chana/Chickpeas:
1/2 chickpeas/chana,soaked for 5 hours
3 cup water
1 tsp salt

To bake sweet potato:
1 large sweet potato,pealed and cubed
1 tsp salt
1 tsp pepper powder

To make chaat:
2 tbsp of roasted Peanuts
1/4 cup onion,finely chopped
1/4 cup tomato, deseeded and finely chopped
1/4 cup cucumber,chopped
1 tbsp corianter leaves
2 tsp green chutney
2 tsp tamarind-date chutney
1/2 tsp chat masala
1/2 tsp cumin powder
1 tbsp lemon juice

DIRECTIONS:

To cook chickpeas:

  1. In a pressure cooker,add soaked chickpeas,salt and water.Pressure cook for 3 whistles.
  2. Allow it to naturally release the pressure.

To bake sweet potato:

  1. Toss the cubed sweet potato with salt and pepper.
  2. Bake at 450C for 15 mins.

Assembling:

  1. Mix all the above mentioned ingredients in a bowl along with boiled chickpeas and baked sweet potato. Mix everything well and serve with a dash of lemon juice.
