Beetroot Halwa

Beetroot Halwa is a creamy, flavorsome and a healthy dessert prepared with freshly grated beetroots, milk, sugar, cardamom and dry fruits.

This healthy filling dessert is great for kids and toddlers.

Beetroots or Beets are packed with essential nutrients and a great source of fiber, folate (vitamin B9), manganese, potassium, iron, and vitamin C. Beetroots and beetroot juice have been associated with numerous health benefits, including improved blood flow, lower blood pressure, and increased exercise performance.

HOW TO MAKE THIS BEETROOT HALWA?

The preparations of beetroot halwa is same as like other other halwas that made with vegetables. It starts with sauteing the grated beet in ghee, simmering it with milk and then sugar. And finally, flavored with cardamom powder and garnished with chopped nuts for extra crunchy.

TIPS TO MAKE PERFECT HALWA AT HOME :

Here are some of tips that I will be following,

  • Use fresh beetroot and grate it finely, so that it will be cooked quickly.
  • Always use whole or full fat milk for making this halwa, it adds richness to it
  • You can also add khoya to this halwa as kit enhance the flavor.
  • You can also fry the nuts in ghee before adding it in halwa
  • Adjust the sweetness as per your choice
  • Always use heavy bottom pan for making halwa and keep stirring at regular intervals
  • To prevent from burning, make sure to cook on medium flame

SOME OF THE VARIATIONS AND SUBSTITUTIONS :

  • To make it more rich and flavorsome, you can add condensed milk as well to the recipe.
  • For vegan version, substitute ghee with coconut oil and milk with almond milk or coconut milk
  • For healthier version, substitute refined sugar with coconut sugar or jaggery or brown sugar.

HOW TO SERVE THE HALWA?

You can serve this halwa warm or chilled with chopped nuts. Personally I would love to have it warm!

HOW TO STORE THE HALWA?

Beetroot Halwa stays good when refrigerated in an air tight container for upto 5 days.

BEETROOT HALWA RECIPE:

INGREDIENTS:

2 tbsp ghee
2 cup beetroot, finely grated
1 cup whole milk
1/4 cup sugar
1/4 tsp cardamom powder
chopped nuts ( cashew, almonds, pistachios)

DIRECTIONS:

  1. In a heavy bottom pan, heat ghee and then add grated beetroot. Saute well until beetroot become soft for 2-3 minutes
  2. Then add milk and mix well. Bring to boil by stirring in intervals.
  3. Once the milk is absorbed by beetroot, add sugar and mix well.
  4. Keep stirring for 5- 7 mins until the ghee starts oozing out
  5. Now add chopped nuts and cardamom powder, saute for a minute and turn off the flame.
  6. Serve this beetroot halwa as warm or chill with some more chopped nuts on top.
