Basil Egg Sandwich

INGREDIENTS FOR BASIL EGG SANDWICH:

Egg Sandwich
  • Bread – You need thick, milk bread for sandwiches.
  • Egg – Good quality and older eggs are perfect for sandwiches.
  • Mayonnaise – Any mayo will works for this sandwich!
  • Basil – Fresh basil adds lots of flavor!
  • Salt and Pepper – just enough to bring out the natural flavor of the eggs.
  • Butter – It acts as a barrier between bread and filling so it stays dry, not soggy.

HOW TO MAKE BASIL EGG SANDWICH?

Bring a large pot of water to a boil, with the pot covered. When the water comes to a boil, gently lower the eggs into the water. Cook the egg for 11 minutes and immediately plunge the eggs in cold running water to cool them off.

When the eggs are cool enough to be handled, carefully peel the soft boiled eggs and set aside for later. Peel the hard boiled eggs to make the egg salad filling

If you’re using a knife, slice the eggs thinly on a cutting board. Place the chopped eggs in the bowl.

Add 2 tbsp of mayonnaise, a generous pinch of salt and white pepper and finely chopped basil. Use a spoon to mix everything together. Add the extra 1 tbsp of mayonnaise (or more) if needed.

Egg Sandwich

Cut the two soft boiled eggs in half using a sharp knife. Lightly season each of the halves with salt.

Take two slices of bread. Spread a thin layer of butter on one side of bread.

Place one soft boiled egg half in the middle of a bread slice, with the yolk side down.

Spread a layer of egg salad filling around the egg half (up to the height of the soft boiled egg half).

Place the other slice of bread on top.

Toast the sandwich in medium flame with butter.

Slice the sandwich in half and serve immediately!

TIPS FOR MAKING PERFECT BASIL EGG SANDWICH:

To make the truly perfect and healthy homemade Egg sandwich at home, here are my tips:

  • Use older but quality eggs, not the freshest eggs, if you want to peel the shells easily.
  • Don’t be afraid to add salt. For a simple dish like this, salt plays an important role in bringing out the flavors.
  • If you want your sandwich to taste very much like the 7-Eleven version, add a tiny bit of sugar for some sweetness. Otherwise, you can skip.
  • Don’t skip the butter. It acts as a waterproof barrier so the bread stays dry, not soggy.
  • Use fresh basil for that perfect flavor!
