Strawberry Fig Smoothie

This refreshing Strawberry Fig Smoothie recipe is the perfect healthy way to kick-start the morning! It’s lightly sweet, creamy, and totally satisfying!

I believe that smoothies are the perfect meal or snack no matter what the weather. It is never too cold to have an awesome smoothie! Since smoothies are such a tasty way to pack in a ton of nutrients, I put on a big sweater and happily drink them even when the temps are frigid.

WHAT IS SMOOTHIE?

A smoothie is a drink made from pureed raw fruit and/or vegetables, typically using a blender. A smoothie often has a liquid base such as water, fruit juice, plant milk, and sometimes dairy products, such as milk, yogurt, ice cream or cottage cheese.[WIKI]

HEALTH BENEFITS OF FIGS:

Figs are the fruit of the ficus tree, which is part of the mulberry family (Moraceae). Figs have a unique, sweet taste, soft and chewy texture and are littered with slightly crunchy, edible seeds. Fresh figs are delicate and perishable, so are often dried to preserve them.

  • Figs are high in natural sugars, minerals and soluble fiber.
  • Figs are rich in minerals including potassium, calcium, magnesium, iron and copper and are a good source of antioxidant vitamins A and K that contribute to health and wellness.
  • Fresh figs are low in calories and contain a variety of vitamins and minerals.
  • They improves digestion and decrease constipation, help manage blood fat and blood sugar levels, and kill cancer cells.

INGREDIENTS FOR STRAWBERRY FIG SMOOTHIE:

To make this strawberry fig smoothie recipe, you will need the following ingredients:

  • Strawberries: You can use fresh or frozen ones. You can also sub in any other kind of frozen berries that you have on hand.
  • Figs: Fresh or frozen or dried figs works well in this recipe. If using dried one, soak them in hot water for 10 mins before using in the recipe.
  • Banana: I typically just use fresh bananas. But you can use frozen sliced bananas in this recipe.
  • Milk: Any type of milk will work for this recipe — cow’s milk, almond milk, oat milk.
  • Sweetener: You can use honey, maple syrup or pitted dates.

HOW TO MAKE A SMOOTHIE:

This strawberry fig smoothie recipe couldn’t be easier! Just…

  • Combine ingredients – Add all ingredients to a blender.
  • Blend – Pulse until smooth. (If your smoothie seems too thick, add in a bit of extra milk or water. If it seems too thin, add in more strawberries or banana.)
  • Serve – Then pour the smoothie into a serving glasses and enjoy!

CAN WE ADD ICE IN A SMOOTHIE?

If you are fresh fruits, you can toss in a handful of ice cubes into the blender to make your smoothie frosty and thick. But if you are using frozen fruit, then there is no need of ice cubes.

WHAT IS THE BEST MILK FOR SMOOTHIES?

If you’re a fan of coconut milk, use it. Like cow’s milk? Go for it. A fan of almond milk? Cool. Use whatever milk you like in your smoothies—you can’t go wrong. I just recommend you stick to unsweetened and unflavored versions. That gives you the most control over the smoothie.

WHAT DO I USE TO SWEETEN A SMOOTHIE?

My recommendation is to blend up your smoothie without any added sweetener, then taste. Many times, I don’t need to add anything! Add in honey or maple syrup to taste. Another great natural option for sweetening: pitted Medjool dates.
