INGREDIENTS FOR PRAWN THOKKU:

  • Prawn – Always use clean and deveined prawns. You may use Tiger Prawns or Shrimp also.
  • Onions – Always prefer using shallots or red onions for making thokku.
  • Tomato – Use ripe tomato either chopped or in puree form!

HOW TO MAKE PRAWN THOKKU?

Devein the prawns and rinse a few times in cold water. Marinate with turmeric powder, red chilli powder, coriander powder, salt and lemon juice for 30 min at least.

In a kadai, add the sesame/coconut oil and when it is hot, add the mustard seeds, cumin seeds, fennel seeds, red chillies and curry leaves. Fry for a min. Then add the onion and saute until its soft.

Add the ginger garlic paste. Fry till it’s raw smell goes off. Add the tomato now and sauté it well.

Add the salt, chili powder and garam masala. Mix well.

Cook until the oil oozes out. Now add the marinated prawns and mix well.

Do not add any water. The prawns by itself leaves out water and gets cooked by that water itself.

Let the oil oozes out again. Garnish with coriander leaves and serve it.
