Paneer Half Moon Pie

Looking for healthy,delicious and freezer-friendly snacks for kids? This Paneer Half Moon Pie, with a crispy golden crust and spiced paneer filling,these handheld snack is prefect for kids!

These are nice appetizers in the shape of a halfmoon. They’re crispy outside with a creamy paneer filling.Serve these half moon pies with ketchup along with a hot cup of tea for a perfect evening snacks.

HOW TO MAKE THIS HALF MOON PIE?

Bring the water to rolling boil along with salt and water. Then add the wheat flour and mix well. Turn off the flame and cover for 10 mins.

Once its cooled down, knead well and make a soft and smooth dough.

To make a stuffing, heat oil in pan and add cumin and green chillies. Once it cracked, add ginger-garlic paste and onion,saute till it turns translucent and soft.

Then add tomato puree along with cilantro and simmer for a minute. Then add the spice powders and salt,finally add the paneer and mix well.

Roll the small dough into a small circle and place a tbsp of stuffing. Fold into Half Moon shaped pie and continue with the rest of the dough.

Take a milk in a bowl and bread crumb in another bowl (Here i have used Italian flavored breadcrumbs, but you can also use plain breadcrumbs and season with salt and pepper)

Dip the half moon pie in milk and then coat it will bread crumbs. Keep it aside and repeat with other pie. At this stage if you wanna freeze some you can do it.

Heat oil in large pan.Once the oil is hot, deep fry the rolls till golden and crisp.

Serve them hot with sauce, ketchup or chutney of your choice along with cup of chai.

WHAT ARE OTHER FILLING VARIATIONS?

Some of my suggestion are:

  • Potato
  • Tofu
  • Chicken
  • Mixed vegetables of choice (carrot, cabbage, cauliflower, beans, zucchini, beetroots and many more)
  • Mushrooms

HOW TO FREEZE THIS HALF MOON PIE?

Yes, we can freeze these pies in a freezer for good 2 months. To freeze them, place all the pie onto a lined tray or plate with the gap of an inch at least and freeze for 2 hours. Once they are frozen enough, gather them and store in clean zip pouch or air tight container.

HOW TO MAKE IN AIR FRYER?

To make it in an air fryer, once you are ready with the pies, pre heat the air fryer at 180C for 10 minutes. Then, arrange the pies in an air fryer basket and brush it with oil. Bake it for 15-18 minutes or until, golden and crisp. Keep in mind to flip it once in half way.

CAN WE BAKE THIS HALF MOON PIES?

Yes, we can bake these pies in preheated over at 200C for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown and crisp. Do not forget to brush the pies with oil before, putting it into the oven. Keep in mind to flip it once in half way.

HOW TO SERVE THIS?

Paneer Half Moon Pie makes a perfect evening snack with a cup of tea. Serve these half moon pies with ketchup along with a hot cup of tea. These pies makes an excellent starters /appetizers or snacks box meal for your kids.

PANEER HALF MOON PIE:

INGREDIENTS:

1 tsp salt
1 tbsp butter
1 tbsp cooking oil
1 tsp cumin seeds
2 green chillies, finely chopped
1 medium onion, finely chopped
1 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
1/4 cup tomato puree
2 tbsp cilantro, finely chopped
1 tsp turmeric
1 tsp red chilli powder
1 tsp garam masala
salt to taste
1 cup paneer, grated
1/2 cup milk
1 cup breadcrumbs
