Paneer Jalfrezi

Paneer Jalfrezi is a delicious melange of paneer (Indian Cottage cheese) and vegetables in a thick onion-tomato based spicy sauce.Its a kinda semi-dry curry that,s almost available in all Indian restaurants and Dhaba’s. This colorful and nutritious restaurant style gravy is very simple and easy to make at home with basic ingredients from our pantry.

What is Paneer Jalfrezi?

Paneer Jalfrezi is stir fry gravy having chunks of paneer with onions, tomatoes, and bell peppers. The paneer along with the vegetables are well coated with the thick and spicy gravy.

Many of you think,what does Jalfrezi means? Jalfrezi is the Indian version of Chinese stir-fry.During the British rule in India, they have came up with it by stir frying leftover veggies with meat in thick, spicy, tangy sauce.

It consists of a main ingredient such as meat, fish, paneer or vegetables, stir-fried and served in a thick onion tomato based spicy sauce that includes green chilli peppers. [Source: Wiki]

Paneer Jalfrezi is one of the popular paneer recipes that you will find in most Indian restaurants.

One of the recipes that is perfect for a mid week meal using simple ingredients but is so very tasty! Paneer is Indian cottage cheese that’s a versatile vegetarian option and absorbs spices to flavor curries really well and cooks very quickly.

If you are a paneer lover,like me. Then a last minute party host or on a busy day or when you ran out of ideas what to cook tonight. Then you have more the reason to bookmark and share this recipe. I love Paneer, for its texture, neutral flavor profile, high protein content, ease and convenience of using it in any recipe.

PANEER JALFREZI RECIPE

INGREDIENTS:
1 tbsp oil
1/2 tsp cumin seeds
3 Green chilli
1 onion, thinly sliced
1 tomato, finely chopped
1 Capsicum, sliced
200g Paneer
1 tsp Ginger-Garlic Paste
2 tbsp coriander leaves
3/4 cup tomato puree
Pinch of Turmeric Powder
1 tsp Red Chilli Powder
1 tsp Garam Masala
Salt as required

INSTRUCTION:

  1. Heat oil in a pan,add cumin and allow to splutter.
  2. Then add sliced Onion,Green Chilli,Ginger Garlic Paste and saute till onion becomes soft
  3. Add chopped tomato and Capsicum,cover and cook for 3 mins.Then add Tomato puree and all the spices powder.
  4. Cover and cook for 5 mins or till the raw smell goes off.
  5. Then add Paneer and mix gently so that all the masala are coated well on paneer.
  6. Finally check for salt and garnish with coriander leaves.
