The BEST Pizza Dough recipe yields a soft and chewy crust with great flavor using simple ingredients, and it makes the perfect base for all your favorite pizza topping combinations! Fail-proof homemade pizza crust every time!
I have been making this easy homemade pizza dough recipe for years. It’s really simple and uses ingredients we always have on hand. And it rises really quickly, so I can have my own cheesy, customized pizza with my favorite toppings.
This easy pizza dough recipe is great for novice and produces a soft homemade pizza crust.
WHAT ARE THE INGREDIENTS YOU WILL NEED?
This pizza dough requies a basic ingredients:
- Water – Use warm water to cut down on rise time. If the water is hot, then it will kill the yeast.
- Sugar – Sugar increases the yeast’s activity and tenderizes the dough.
- Yeast – Use active dry yeast. Yeast helps the dough to rise and make the crust soft.
- Flour – Use unbleached all-purpose flour. You can substitute bread flour for a chewier pizza crust
- Salt – Salt adds necessary flavor.
- Olive oil – Extra virgin olive oil adds wonderful flavor to the dough. You can substitute any mild-tasting oil such as avocado or canola.
HOW TO MAKE PIZZA DOUGH?
Making pizza dough is really simple,
Prepare the yeast: In a small bowl whisk the water, sugar and yeast together. Let it sit for about 10 minutes. If the yeast is good, it will start to froth up.
Form the dough: In the bowl, add the flour, salt, olive oil and yeast mixture. Mix everything together until you get a smooth dough.
Allow to rise: Shape the dough into a ball and place in an oiled bowl, rubbing oil on the dough as well, cover with plastic wrap and set aside for 60-90 minutes.
Make the pizza: Deflate the dough to release air bubbles. Divide and roll it into circle. Add your favorite sauce, toppings, cheeses. Bake at high temperature for 12 minutes.
TIPS FOR MAKING PERFECT PIZZA CRUST:
Here are the few tips that I follow:
- Use fresh yeast for the dough. You know the yeast is still good if it foams. If not, toss it and get a new batch.
- The dough needs to rise until it doubles in size. I like to place the bowl of dough in the oven with lights on to aid in the rising time.
- Don’t forget to brush the dough with olive oil before adding the sauce, which prevents the crust from tasting soggy.
HOW TO STORE DOUGH?
You can make this pizza dough ahead of time. Place the dough in an oiled bowl and cover tightly with plastic wrap. This will ensure the dough keeps for up to 2 days in the fridge.
You can also freeze this dough nicely! Wrap the dough in individual balls with plastic wrap and freeze for up to 3 months. When ready to eat just allow it to thaw at room temperature.
