Mango milkshake is an easy, naturally sweet and easily adaptable recipe, that’s why it’s also one of our favorites. It’s perfect for these hot summer days and kids love it!
Mangoes are an absolute dream. I love turning fresh, ripe fruit into all sorts of recipes, or just eating it straight up. It has such a wonderful, fragrant taste.
It’s a refreshing creamy drink that turns juicy fresh or frozen mangos into a delicious milkshake. Creamy mango milkshake is so hard to resist!
I simply love milkshakes. I can have them day in and day out and during summer I kind of crave them everyday. This mango shake is a popular Indian summer drink that combines fresh mangos with milk. It’s thick, sweet and super refreshing. Perfect for warm days.
INGREDIENTS FOR MANGO MILKSHAKE:
To make this tasty mango milk shake, you need very few ingredients:
- Mangoes: use mangoes that are not too fibrous to get a better texture. I like to use alphonso mangoes for shakes and lassis. You can also use tinned mango pulp or frozen mango cubes.
- Milk: You can use dairy or vegan milk depending upon your preference. For this mango milkshake recipe I used whole milk.
- Ice cream: Adding ice cream makes the milkshake rich, creamy & delicious. Vanilla or mango ice cream would be great in this recipe.
- Sweetener: You can use any sweetener of your choice here. Sugar, honey, maple syrup everything will work. You can even add dates syrup or palm jaggery but the flavor and color of the shake will vary.
HOW TO MAKE MANGO MILKSHAKE?
Start by cutting the mango into chunks. Once you’ve cut the mango, put the mango pieces, ice cream, milk and cardamom in the blender and blend for forty seconds to a minutes until creamy and frothy. Pour the mango shake into glasses and top with some whipped cream.
NOTES AND TIPS
- Use mangoes that are completely sweet or the milk will curdle because of the sourness of the mangoes.
- You can also use frozen mangos to make this recipe.
- Any kind of milk would work in this recipe. I use whole milk but you can use any kind of milk such as almond milk, coconut milk or cashew milk to make this mango shake.
- This mango milkshake is naturally sweet but you can add a couple tablespoons of sugar if you like it sweeter.
- As for the ice cream, both vanilla and mango ice cream would work perfectly in this milkshake recipe.
- For super thick shake add minimum milk and use more fruit and ice cream.
- For lighter version just increase milk or you can add ice cubes too.
- You can’t make this too far ahead as it could discolor slightly as the fruit oxidizes.
- You can double or halve the recipe.
HOW TO CHOOSE THE RIGHT MANGO?
For this milkshake you should use a variety of mango that is not fibrous. It should be ripe, and of the juicy kind with a sweeter pulp. Try to use Indian sweet mangoes like alphonso, safeda or dussheri which have a sweet pulp and less fiber. I would not advise to use mangoes that aren’t sweet as the sourness in the mangoes could cause the milk to curdle.
CAN YOU MAKE MANGO MILKSHAKE WITHOUT ICE CREAM?
Yes. You can make this mango milkshake without ice cream as well. Leave out the ice cream and add a little bit more milk or a couple tablespoons of plain thick yogurt.
VARIATIONS TO THIS MANGO MILKSHAKE:
- Add in some warming spices such as cinnamon, cardamom or nutmeg.
- Sweeten with brown sugar for a bolder sweetness.
- Add a dash of vanilla extract to your milkshake with mango for a light vanilla flavor.
- Pour into popsicle molds and freeze for a fun frozen treat.
- Add a shot of your favorite liquor to make it a frozen mango cocktail. It would be great with dark rum, tequila or vodka.
SPECIAL DIETS:
To Make Gluten Free: This recipe is naturally made gluten free but be sure to check your labels on any flavoring used to make sure they do not contain gluten ingredients.
To Make a vegan mango shake: To make this recipe vegan, simply use a dairy-free plant based milk in place of the milk or ice cream.
STORAGE SUGGESTIONS:
Storing: This recipe needs to be consumed shortly after blending as it does melt quickly!
Freezing: You can freeze any additional milkshake into popsicle or ice cube molds to enjoy later as a frozen treat.
If you’re ever wondering what to do with ripe seasonal mangoes, then you must try this shake. Of course, there’s always mango compote or mango salad too!
