This is the best strawberry milkshake recipe! It’s beautifully pink, rich and frosty, and bursting with sweet-tart strawberry flavor! Top with homemade whipped cream for a delicious dessert!
This homemade milkshake is special. It tastes a bit gourmet, but this one is made of fresh strawberries and it’s perfect.
STRAWBERRY MILKSHAKE INGREDIENTS:
To make this delicious strawberry shake, you need just a few ingredients:
- Strawberries: You can use either fresh or frozen strawberries. It’s important to choose the best strawberries as they give all the flavor to this milkshake.
- Vanilla ice cream: You can use many varieties for ice cream including vanilla bean ice cream or vanilla bean frozen yogurt.
- Vanilla Extract: Its optional, but I love the hint of vanilla flavour in my shakes.
- Milk: I used whole milk but any other kind of milk (such as almond milk) or any fat % milk would work. If you want the milkshake to be extra creamy, high fat milk works best.
Sometimes, I use a cup of ice in my milkshake as well to make it frothy. This is not a necessary ingredient and you can absolutely skip it.
HOW TO MAKE A STRAWBERRY MILKSHAKE?
You need a good amount of strawberries for this easy milkshake recipe. Wash the strawberries and pat dry them. Place the strawberry, ice cream, milk and vanilla extract in a blender and blend for twenty to thirty seconds until the shake is ready and creamy. Pour into chilled glasses and serve immediately with whipped cream and fresh strawberry on top.
VARIATION TO THIS STRAWBERRY MILKSHAKE:
This strawberry shake is a great base recipe for experimenting with more strawberry combos. If you’re looking for something new, try adding some of these mix-ins:
- Strawberry Cheesecake Milkshake: Add 1 1/2 to 2 ounces cream cheese to the shake before blending.
- Chocolate Strawberry Milkshake: Add Chocolate Ice Cream instead of Vanilla Ice Cream in this recipe.
- Strawberry Banana Milkshake: Add 1 ripe banana (fresh or frozen) to the shake before blending.
- Mixed Berry Milkshake: Add 1/2 cup blueberries, raspberries and blackberries to the shake before blending.
HOW CAN I KEEP THE MILKSHAKE THICK FOR LONGER?
Place the glasses in the freezer for 10 minutes before serving. Keeping the glasses cool will help the milkshake stay thick for longer!
CAN WE USE FROZEN STRAWBERRIES FOR MILKSHAKE?
If you’re making this recipe in a season outside of strawberry season, you can use frozen strawberries instead of fresh ones.
CAN I MAKE NON DAIRY STRAWBERRY MILKSHAKE?
Yes you can. To make a milkshake without dairy use non dairy ice cream such as almond milk or coconut milk ice cream and use almond milk instead of dairy milk.
HOW TO MAKE HEALTHIER VERSION OF THIS MILKSHAKE?
You can make this recipe a bit lighter by using vanilla frozen yogurt instead of vanila ice cream. Also using non fat or dairy free milk would cut the calories.
HOW CAN I THICKEN UP A MILKSHAKE?
You can add a cup of crushed ice to this chocolate shake recipe to make it thick. The combination of ice and frozen ice cream makes a milkshake pretty thick. Be sure not to over-blend the milkshake so it keeps its thickness.
SERVE SUGGESTIONS:
Take the glasses out of the freezer and divide the milkshake between the glasses and top with whipped cream, chocolate shavings and more strawberries.

Strawberry Milkshake
Ingredients
- 1 ½ cup fresh strawberries
- 1 cup vanilla ice cream
- ½ cup whole milk
- 1 tsp vanilla extract optional
- 2 tbsp white sugar optional
Instructions
- Wash and pat dry the strawberries. Remove the top and cut the strawberries in halves.
- Place the halved strawberries in the blender jar and add ice cream, vanilla extract and milk to the strawberries.
- Blend for ten to twelve seconds until everything is mixed.
- Divide between two glasses and top with whipped cream and more fresh strawberries.
Notes
- Placing the glasses in the freezer will help the milkshake stay thick for longer.
- For creamy milkshake, make sure you use full fat ice cream and whole milk.
- For a thicker milkshake, add 1 cup of ice to the ingredients in the blender and replace more of the milk with heavy cream and add more ice cream..
- Make sure the ice cream is slightly soft, but not melted.
- If you like your milkshakes thinner, add more milk.
- If using frozen strawberries, allow your ice cream to sit at room temperature for 5 to 10 minutes before using, until it just begins to melt. Otherwise, you might have trouble getting everything to blend.
- If you prefer a less-sweet shake or are using extremely ripe berries, you can omit the sugar, but I recommend using it since cold ingredients mute sweetness.
