Falafel Bowl

Say hello to my dream bowl!

A bowl full of greens, veggies, hummus, falafel, and tahini sauce. Swoon.

The base of this bowl is my go-to cabbage, tomato, and onion salad with a simple dressing of lemon juice, olive oil, and sea salt.

Speaking of falafel, this is my favorite one at the moment from Afia Foods. It’s absolutely perfect in texture and flavor!

WHAT IS FALAFEL?

There are a million ways to make falafel, but traditional falafel is made from ground chickpeas or fava beans, herbs and spices. The mixture is then formed into balls or patties and deep fried for a texture that’s crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, sort of like a fritter. It’s a classic Middle Eastern and Mediterranean recipe that’s enjoyed as street food and often served up as part of mezze (a group of small meals).[Wiki]

Falafel Bowl

INGREDIENTS FOR THIS FALAFEL BOWL:

There are three main components to these falafel bowls: the falafel, the dressing and the rest of the bowl ingredients.

  • 10 baked falafel ( I have used frozen Afia Foods Falafel)
  • 1 cup meditarrean roasted cauliflower
  • 1 roasted red pepper
  • 1 cup cabbage mix
  • 1/4 cup cucumber, sliced
  • 1/4 cup diced tomato
  • 1/4 cup diced red onion
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 pinch sea salt
  • 1/4 cup feta
  • 1 avacado
  • 1/4 cup tahini
  • 1/4 cup hummus

ADD-INS FOR THESE BAKED FALAFEL BOWLS:

  • Feel free to swap out salad greens with any grain for your wish! If you aren’t gluten-free we love making these with couscous.
  • Prefer different types of veggies? Replace the cauliflower for veggies of your choice – just adjust roasting time accordingly
  • These baked falafel bowls make a great meal prep meal – just prep all of the ingredients in advance and mix right before eating

HOW TO BAKE FROZEN FALAFELS:

  • Pre-heat the oven to 350 F.
  • Place frozen falafels on the greased parchment. Bake 15 minutes, then carefully flip.
  • Continue baking for another 12-15 minutes until golden and slightly crispy.

HOW TO SERVE FALAFEL BOWLS:

We love this with plenty of crisp raw veggies so add as many as you want! Add the cabbage mix or any of your fav grains to a large bowl then add your raw veggies, the roasted cauliflower and bell peppers, feta, sliced avocado and top with a couple of those falafel balls. Then add a generous dollop of tahini sauce and hummus. We usually add a couple of lemon wedges and some extra coriander/cilantro. This dish can be served warm or cold.
